Why Owning Space centres women.
After I started my podcast, Owning Space, a few men asked me the same question.
Why isn’t this for men too?
I want to be clear about something first. I love men. My dad is one of my biggest cheerleaders. And I’ve had some great experiences with male doctors along the way. This isn’t about blame or exclusion.
But the question still matters.
Because for most of my life, and for many women I speak to, we’ve been taught to make ourselves smaller. To soften our pain. To explain it carefully. To make sure everyone else feels comfortable, even when we’re the ones living with the symptoms, the burnout, the long waits for answers.
Owning Space exists because women so rarely get spaces that are intentionally built around our lived experience. Spaces where we don’t have to centre men, anticipate their reactions, or dilute what we’re saying in order to be taken seriously.
Owning Space is rooted in women’s realities. Health that is dismissed. Pain that is normalised. Ambition that is questioned. Exhaustion that is framed as a personal failure rather than a systemic one.
Men are welcome to listen. To learn. To support. But women don’t have to centre them here.
There are countless platforms where men are the default audience. This isn’t one of them.
This is a space where women can speak freely, be believed, and take up space without apology.
If that resonates, you’re in the right place.
And if it makes you uncomfortable, that discomfort might be telling you something worth paying attention to.
